2011-2013 GCNYAHU President

It is with great pride that I begin my term as 6th President of the Greater Central NY Association of Health Underwriters.  I am proud to be a part of an association of men and women who, on a daily basis, do the very best that they can for their clients. Whether it is obtaining the best coverage available for a client or helping them navigate a difficult benefit situation, our members rise above and beyond the normal “duties” of an insurance agent.  I am proud to be part of a Board of Directors that have made a commitment to the members of GCNYAHU to keep them educated and informed in order to continue to rise above and beyond.

The year 2014 is quickly approaching and it is no surprise that we will be looking at some overwhelming changes to the current healthcare system. The talk of MLR is at the forefront of the discussions on both the state and federal levels. States are beginning to set up their own health care exchanges and need guidance. NAHU leads the charge in keeping our legislators aware of our concerns and informed of the issues and the impacts of their decisions. Together, with your board of directors, I look forward to meeting the challenges ahead and continuing to keep your concerns at the forefront of the discussions. May 7, 2012 was the Day on the Hill cocktail/award ceremony at Taste. This award honors NYSAHU members who perform special service in state legislative affairs during a single association year or over an extended period of time.

GCNYAHU 2012-2013 Charities

Meals-on-Wheels of Syracuse and The Children's Consortium

GCNYAHU is pleased to announce that we have selected two (2) charities for 2012-2013, Meals on Wheels of Syracuse and The Children's Consortium.

Meals On Wheels of Syracuse was the 4th Meals on Wheels program in the US and provides nourishment to homebound individuals.  In addition Meals on Wheels of Syracuse provides nutrition education and resource assistance to people living in our community unable to do so for themselves.

The Children's Consortium, which was incorporated in 1973, provides programs and services, including home and center based services, which empower families to reach their full potential. The Children's Consortium provides services to improve literacy, parenting skills, adult education, early childhood education and professional development.

Wounded Warrior Project

GCNYAHU is pleased to announce that through our members and non-members generous participation in our 50/50 membership meeting raffles AND generous purchases of raffle tickets at our Annual Golf Outing, GCNYAHU has raised $2067 for the Wounded Warrior Project.  Deb Crouch presented Bob Hawes, of the Syracuse VA, our check on Wednesday, September 26, 2012.

Alzheimer's Association

GCNYAHU is pleased to announce that through our members and non-members generous participation in our 50/50 membership meeting raffles AND generous purchases of raffle tickets at our Member Appreciation Outing, GCNYAHU has raised $1835 for the Alzheimer's Association.  Deb Crouch presented Kathy James, CEO, of the Alzheimer's Association, our check on Tuesday, September 27, 2011.
