On Tuesday, October 21, 2008, GCNYAHU is holding its 2008-2009 kickoff membership meeting “What is NAHU?  NAHU 101” at Justin’s Grill in East Syracuse, NY.  GCNYAHU encourages all GCNYAHU members to bring a non-NAHU member guest for FREE so the non-NAHU member can see why NAHU is important to them and why they should be an active member of NAHU.

The NENY Chapter of NYS NAHU went on the Road for our First Member meeting after or Summer break.  The Board of Directors and Committee Chairs responded to the requests of our members and future members to have meetings in the Hudson Valley region periodically.  We had a robust turnout including some new faces at the meeting which focused on Legislative updates from our Lobbyist Tom Faust and Legislative Committee Chair Gordon Zuckerman.  Gordon also spoke about the need for each NYS licensed Life Accident and Health Agent/Broker to support NAHU by being a member including the benefits of membership.  more

We had another fantastic turnout last week for our legislative meeting.  I want to thank those who attended and I hope you found the material presented to be informative.  For those of you who were unable to attend, many topics were covered from the economic landscape of the health insurance industry to the Presidential candidate’s health care platforms to individual state legislative reports (New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts).

The speakers who brought a presentation with them were gracious enough to give us permission to distribute it to our membership.  Please click on the below links to find the presentations for Jeff Alter, CEO Northeast for United Healthcare, Janet Trautwein,  Executive Vice President & CEO of NAHU and Julie Jennings, Legislative Chair of Massachusetts AHU.

On behalf of the Board for the Downstate New York chapter, I can tell you we are committed to bringing value to our members by holding these types of meetings on a consistent basis.  In addition, we will be hosting various CE meetings over the next several months as the first wave of license renewals are up in the second half of 2009.  In fact, the topic of our next meeting will be "What you thought you know about Consumer Directed Plans is about to change for 2009".  We will be sending out more information on it soon, but mark your calendar for December 4th!!

Finally as a reminder, our membership drive began on October 1, 2008 and will run through December 31, 2008.   Any member who recruits 5 new members will receive a free annual membership upon next renewal.  Please click here for a new membership application and be sure to list your name as the referral/sponsor member.  It is that easy!!

Wishing you all the best during the upcoming holiday season.

Thank you to everyone who attended the CDHC class. Overwhelmingly we heard it was one of the best CE classes I have participated in.  Mr.. Torella proved to be an engaging and well versed speaker on the topic, and the course material made the time go by very quickly.  Some great tools, slides, and approaches (basic and advanced) came out of the presentation and discussions that I know we'll all use for years to come.
